Bhai Dooj 2023: Significance
One of the most auspicious days devoted to brothers and sisters is thought to be Bhai Dooj. All brothers and sisters have a common tie of love and respect for one another on this occasion. Sister applies a roli and haldi tilak during a tilak ritual on her brother’s forehead on this holy day. In addition to brothers giving their sisters gifts as a sign of their love and care, this represents the sister’s prayers for her brother’s health and long life.
West Bengalis celebrate Phota festival, which is another name for Bhai Dooj. On this day, the sisters fast, and they feed their brother first when the tilak is finished. The brother returns the favour by giving his sister a gift after the tilak. In West Bengal, people celebrate it in this manner.
After tilak, a sister in the states of Uttar Pradesh offers her brother a dried coconut. In Nepal, people refer to Bhai Dooj as Bhai Tihar. The Arabic term for tilak, which is performed by sisters, is tihar.
Bhai Dooj 2023: Puja Rituals
- All of the brothers and sisters get up early and dress nicely in traditional attire.
- First, give them a Tilak if you believe that Laddoo Gopal Ji and Lord Ganesha are her brothers.
- Sisters cook their brothers food, sweets, and savoury items.
- To commemorate Bhai Dooj, a brother visits his sister, or a sister visits her brother.
- The gift that the sister wishes to give her brother, roli, unbroken rice, or akshat, dried coconut, and sweets are used to garnish the dish.
- Order tilak and akshat in that order. Give the brother the dried coconut with tilak on it as well, wishing him a long and healthy life.
- In exchange, brothers touch their sisters’ feet and accept blessings.
- As a sign of their love and respect, they give their sisters money or a gift of their choosing.
- Sisters add to the festival’s memories by feeding their brothers.
