Soon after taking off from the Tamil Nadu airport in Tiruchirappalli, an Air India Express aircraft reported experiencing a hydraulic breakdown. However, the aircraft made a safe landing.
The 144-passenger flight, AXB 613, took off at 5:40 p.m. and reported the issue shortly after, en route to Sharjah. When ordered to return, the pilots burnt some gasoline by flying away from Tiruchirappalli because it was not a good idea to try a precautionary landing with all of the fuel on board.
After flying for more than two and a half hours, the aircraft finally touched down at 8:15 p.m. amid applause and cheers from the passengers.
Around 7.50 p.m., there were rumors that something might be wrong with the landing gear, so the Tiruchirappalli airport prepared for an emergency landing and had multiple ambulances ready.
According to sources, the pilot kept in close contact with Air Traffic Control and was given permission to land on his belly, but he instead executed a successful regular landing. The airplane was seen landing with its landing gear correctly engaged in a video.
News agency IANS quoted Tiruchirappalli Airport Director Gopalakrishnan as stating that the airport had eighteen fire engines and twenty ambulances ready for an emergency landing.
In addition to directing staff to stay vigilant, civil aviation minister Ram Mohan Naidu was also coordinating with the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the aviation regulator.
MK Stalin, the chief minister of Tamil Nadu, announced that he had a phone emergency conference with authorities and instructed them to take all the safety precautions.
The news that the #AirIndiaExpress flight landed safely gives me hope. He wrote on X, “As soon as I learnt about the landing gear problem, I called officials to arrange an emergency meeting and gave them the go-ahead to take all required safety precautions, such sending out fire engines, ambulances, and medical help.
“I’ve also given the District Collector instructions to make sure that every passenger stays safe and to offer further support. He remarked, “I would want to thank the pilot and crew for a safe landing.
