How to play the Powerball lottery
Similar to Mega Millions, the Powerball lottery starts with a $20 million jackpot, and it grows every time a draw is held without a winner. The participant must select six numbers, one of which must be a Powerball, and match all six of those numbers to the numbers chosen that particular week.
The sixth “Powerball” number is between 1 and 26 and the first five numbers selected must be within the range of 1 to 69. Because the Powerball number is chosen from a different pool, it may be the same as one of the first five numbers.
Any lottery store will sell Powerball tickets, and the Lottery Places app will help you find the one closest to you. The average price per play is $2, plus a service charge for certain online vendors.
For an additional $1 per ticket, players can choose to activate the Power Play function. When the jackpot is $150 million or less, a multiplier is introduced that can increase the prize by up to 10 times. Powerball remains the largest jackpot ever won
Despite all the media attention the enormous Mega Millions drawings received, Powerball actually holds the record for the highest jackpot victory in US history. A fortunate ticket purchaser in California won a $2 billion prize on November 7, 2022.
The most recent Mega Millions jackpot, which was supposedly won in Maine in January 2023 by a lucky winner, was apparently worth $1.35 billion. It was the second-largest top reward in the 20-year history of the Mega Millions and the fifth billion-dollar lottery jackpot in US history.
